Overview
The Sar Pass Trek is a spectacular trail winding through the lush forests, alpine meadows, and snow-covered landscapes of Himachal Pradesh. It’s a favorite among beginners and seasoned trekkers alike, offering a mix of stunning views, vibrant campsites, snow crossings, and thrilling descents.
The name “Sar” means lake in the local dialect — trekkers cross a frozen lake near the pass, making this trek even more memorable. With views of pine forests, snow-capped peaks, and colorful Himalayan flora, it’s a complete Himalayan adventure.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Kasol – Registration & Acclimatization
Reach Kasol by morning or afternoon. Complete your trek registration and attend the briefing by the trek leader. Take time to acclimatize by exploring the charming riverside cafés or walking around Chalal village.
Day 2: Kasol to Grahan Village
The trek begins! Start from Kasol and climb steadily through thick pine forests along the Grahan Nallah. The trail gets steeper as you approach the rustic village of Grahan. Enjoy views of the valley and stargazing at night.
Day 3: Grahan to Min Thach
After breakfast, ascend through oak and rhododendron forests. The trail narrows and becomes steeper until you reach Min Thach, a beautiful meadow with views of Nagaru and Sar Top.
Day 4: Min Thach to Nagaru
Today’s trail is short but steep and may include snow patches depending on the season. Nagaru is the highest campsite and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Parvati Valley and snow-clad peaks.
Day 5: Nagaru to Sar Pass to Biskeri Thach
This is the summit day! Begin early to climb the snow-covered slopes of Sar Pass. The trail passes the frozen lake and rewards you with 360° views from the top. After celebrating the summit, descend to the lush green Biskeri Thach meadow — the descent includes sliding down snowy slopes (a fun highlight!).
Day 6: Biskeri Thach to Barshaini – Drive to Kasol – Departure
After breakfast, trek downhill through dense forests and small villages like Pulga and Tulga. Reach Barshaini, from where a vehicle will drop you back to Kasol.
